Rimantas’ business story started with striving for quality. The man returned from the USA where he had his own construction business and was invited to work in a friend’s company also in construction. When he saw works being carried out irresponsibly and badly, he decided that he could offer services of good quality and started his own company together with a partner. The man says he felt calm – at that time, it was up-and-coming business; furthermore, he already had the necessary knowledge, experience and skills from work in the construction business in the USA. Orders came flowing: employees of the new company laboured fitting out rural tourism homesteads, renovating or building authentic structures from field stones.
Eventually, a fire stove shop was opened in Utena, where customers were offered full service: besides selling a fire stove, employees of the company could also install it. Despite the vast potential for continuing and expanding the activities, the business folded up. According to Rimantas, there were several causes. As the economic downturn of 2008 began, some customers were unable to pay and remain owing large amounts to date. Furthermore, as his business partner delved deeper into his personal business, he neglected the area for which he had been responsible, namely, customer search and handling documentation. Now, Rimantas lives in a large homestead and works according to orders building and fitting out houses. He assures that his dream to have some time to enjoy nature and family besides work came true only after the crash of the business.
